When should I get my carpets cleaned? I hear this question all the time and the truth is there is no exact answer. The picture above shows some carpet cleaning in Searcy, AR that we recently completed. The homeowner was amazed at all we were able to remove from her carpets but she had waited to long to have her carpets cleaned and there was permanent damage to some of the fibers that will never be able to be repaired. You have to think of the dirt and other foreign materials in your carpet as a type of sandpaper. This is why you will normally notice the worst areas in your carpet are located in front of a chair, couch or in the main walkways. The dirt and debris gets into the carpeting and is ground into the fibers by foot traffic. The best thing you can do to extend the time between having to have your carpets cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner is to throughly vacuum your carpets at least once a week. When I say throughly what I am trying to say here in a nice way is SLOW DOWN allow the vacuum to remove as much of the debris as possible and this can only be accomplished by slowing down and making multiple passes over heavily soiled areas. If you would just do this you can extend the time between having your carpets professionally cleaned. When you are throughly vacuuming your carpets weekly you can expect to need to have your carpets cleaned around every 12 to 18 months in a residential setting. We also offer professional commercial carpet cleaning in Searcy, AR and some of the locations we have to clean as often as once a month just because of the buildup of grease, grime and foot traffic.
In closing I would have to say that you have the greatest affect on how often you should have your carpets professionally cleaned but by following the vacuum method above you should be able to extend the time between cleanings. Once the carpet looks dirty to you it is usually too late and what you are actually seeing is damage beginning to affect the face of the carpet.

Most people get confused when trying to distinguish between a spot and a stain in there carpet, but there is a big difference in the carpet cleaning business.
To make it as simple as possible you need to think about the two like this. A spot in your carpet is removable and a stain is not.
The best method to check and see if you have a spot or a stain is to take a mild cleaner and apply it on a white hand towel and blot the spot. If the material transfers to the towel then most likely you have a spot which should be able to be removed by either doing it yourself or by having a professional carpet cleaner do it. If you get no transfer to the towel that does not mean that you have a stain but you will need a professional carpet cleaner to attempt to remove the spot.
We come across many different types of spots and stains in or professional carpet cleaning business. We deal with everything from wine, urine, gum, grease, kool aid and many other variants. Each type of spot has to be approached differently and certain cleaning agents are created to address each situation. For example a red kool aid spill is considered by many professional carpet cleaners as permanent but by using the correct chemistry many kool aid spills can be completely removed by a process of applying a cleaning agent and adding a heat transfer method. This is one spot where hiring a professional is highly recommended because damage can be done to the carpet if the heat is applied to long to the carpet face. When dealing with a pet urine spot we use an enzyme based prespray that eats at the urine and then we will post treat the area with an oxidizing agent that will hopefully completely remove the yellow tint left behind by a urine spot.
